Hypnosis is a safe and natural state of deep relaxation.
A lovely daydream like state in which people usually feel
very comfortable and relaxed.
The first part of the session is spent talking about what the client would like to achieve and any progress so far.
The therapist then takes them into a relaxed hypnotic state, they will be fully aware and fully in control, they will not be asleep and cannot be made to do anything they do not wish to do.
Whilst the client is pleasantly and deeply relaxed the therapist communicates directly with the subconscious part of the mind, allowing them to use their own resources to make the positive changes they wish to make.
Hypnotherapy can be successfully used with many issues, for example:
- Hypno-banding/ Weight management,
- Hypno-birthing/Preparation for child birth.
- Stopping smoking,
- Overcoming fears and phobias,
- Managing stress, anxiety, panic attacks, IBS
- Controlling addictions
- Breaking unwanted habit such as nail biting
- Calming exam or driving test nerves,
- Improving self confidence/ raising self esteem
- Making lifestyle changes
Though a typical session would normally last for one hour, the content of each hypnotherapy session must be tailored to the individual client and their particular issue, therefore this duration may vary.
The number of sessions required varies between individuals and what they wish to achieve - normally between 2 and 6 sessions are recommended. Certain specialist programmes require a specific number of sessions to be effective i.e. the formal Hypno-birthing programme is 4 sessions plus a consolidation session immediately prior to the expected date of delivery.
A stop smoking session lasts up to two hours and normally only one appointment is needed.
